Fire Prevention - Inspection Bureau
Supervised by Inspector Scott Karstens. The Fire Prevention Bureau consists of the Fire Chief and the Fire Inspector. All members of the Fire Department are involved in Fire Prevention activities when needed. The Fire Inspector also coordinates activities with the Building Department Inspectors, The Office of the State Fire Marshall and occasionally Illinois EPA. The Fire Inspector is also responsible for reviewing proposed sprinkler and fire alarm work by contractors and the maintenance of these systems.

Fire Prevention enforces code compliance
of the adopted Fire Codes which include
NFPA and ICC Building and Fire Codes.
These codes have been adopted by Village
Ordinances. The applications of these
codes allow existing occupancies to remain under the code adopted at the time occupancy was established. New occupancies are required to meet the current code requirements.
During January 2010, the Fire Prevention Bureau was involved with a new business that began operating in November 2009 without building permits or business license and was shut down. This business was allowed to resume operations several months later after obtaining permits and complying with required codes.
