Fire Investigation

The Fire Investigation Division provides investigators to fire scenes to determine the cause and origin of fires. Of these, we were able to respond to 9 investigations outside of our village and the remainder of the investigations were mutual aid responses to other Division 20 towns. It has been hard to participate in Division 20 responses since the layoffs, but we still try to respond when we have available manpower and investigators available when there is a callout by the division.

The Broadview Fire Division consists of the present staff in 2010 of:

Captain Carl Lite
Captain Ned Thoma
Lieutenant Jonathan Hoadley
Firefighters Steve Murczek
Firefighters John DeLong
Firefighters Michael Nykaza
Firefighters Nick Schodtler
Firefighters Tracy Scalise

The members of the Broadview Fire Investigation Division are also members of the Fire Investigation Strike Force; this is an educational and resource organization, which hold monthly meetings and periodic seminars that are attended by division personnel.

Broadview is a part of the Division 20 Fire Investigation Unit. Which provides the body of manpower and expertise for conducting investigations. In January of this year, as part of the monthly investigators meetings, classes were provided on investigation topics such as fire scene photography, evidence collection/submission, and scene sketching. A new vehicle was converted into a fire investigation vehicle which will be designated Fire Investigation I (FI 1) and is kept at the Maywood FD.
